Flor de Mil Colores is een intiem portret van Emiliana, een moeder die probeert te overleven in een afgelegen Boliviaans mijnkamp op 4896 meter boven de zeespiegel. Het leven in Mina Argentina draait rond de ontginning van tin. Wie er vindt eet, wie er geen vindt eet niet. Terwijl de mijnwerkers kijken naar de voorbijdrijvende wolken wanneer ze richting duisternis stappen, ziet het landschap eruit als een magisch schilderij waar de verf van de grijze rotsen overloopt in het blauw van de lucht. De film schetst het dagelijkse leven van een moeder die vecht tegen de omstandigheden in die ruwe en donkere omgeving om haar kinderen te geven wat ze verdienen.

Flor de Mil Colores is an intimate portrait of Emiliana, a mother trying to survive in a remote Bolivian mining camp 4896 meters above sea level. Life in Mina Argentina revolves around tin mining. Whoever finds tin eats, those who don’t, do not. While the miners step towards darkness looking at the passing clouds, the landscape looks like a magical painting where the paint of the gray rocks spills into the blue of the sky. The film sketches the daily life of a mother fighting the conditions of that rough and dark environment to give her children what they need.

Karen Vázquez Guadarrama (° 1988) was born in Mexico City, she studied film at KASK after spending a year in France. Her films are a search for a rudimentary form of a narrative in which she explores small events of daily life, attentive to emotions and significant details. She makes narrative films and documentaries. Her first narrative short Mont d’Or (2013), the short documentary Flor de Mil Colores (2015), as well as her feature documentary When the Bull Cried (2017), were selected at prestigious international film festivals. In 2018, Karen won the Camerimage prize for her work as a DOP.
