Ruben Desiere (°1990) studeerde af in 2014 met Kosmos. De film werd bekroond met de Prix Mathilde Horlait-Dapsens, de VAF Wildcard Documentaire 2014 en de Grand prix du Jury op het festival Filmer à tout prix en had zijn internationale première op het Internationaal Film Festival van Rotterdam (IFFR).

In 2017 realiseerde hij de film La fleurière, een coproductie met het Slovaakse productiehuis Mandala Pictures. La fleurière werd geselecteerd voor o.a. de Bright Future Competition op IFFR, Göteborg Film Festival, Curitiba International Film Festival en New Horizons International Film Festival. La fleurière werd gereleased in de Vlaamse arthouse-bioscopen en werd in samenwerking met distributeur Filmtopia gereleased in Slovakije en uitgezonden op de Slovaakse nationale televisie.

Ruben Desiere is medeoprichter van het online filmmagazine Sabzian.be. Samen met Rasmus Van Heddeghem richtte hij de productiestructuur Accattone films op en is als producent betrokken bij Etangs Noirs (Pieter Dumoulin & Timeau De Keyser, 2018), Mitten (Olivia Rochette & Gerard-Jan Claes, 2019) en Kind Hearts (Olivia Rochette & Gerard-Jan Claes, in productie).

Up until November 2013, the Gesù convent in Brussels was home to around 250 people including a number of Roma families originating from Slovakia. Over the months leading up to their impending eviction, Ruben Desiere worked with a number of the inhabitants to create a film.

Kosmos is loosely based on the book of the same name by the Polish author Witold Gombrowicz. It focuses on the family of Kevin Mroč who had been living at Gesù for three years, and also features two newcomers, Mižu Balázs en Rasto Vaňo.
