For years, Kumail Syed denied his social background. When he realised that his rejection was nothing more than an insult to the social determinism that his parents had embodied, he decided to revisit the neighbourhood of his childhood. In the form of a filmed diary, Children Have Ears bears witness to what the working class can represent today, through tableaux vivants of the Brussels’ neigbourhood Les Marolles, and through the testimonies of Alpha, Bilal, Lila, the director and his mother.
