East Shore is a portrait of Marnix Verleene, a fisherman in Ostend, sketching an image of the East Shore fishing district through a poetic glance at Marnix’ life. In the neighbourhood fishermen dwell: they are weaving nets, playing cards and killing time. Now the district is being demolished; high residential blocks are rising up instead. East Shore reflects the fragmented state of the environment and the fisherman’s profession in its film form.
