Test 1 is a hand-painted abstract 16mm film with live sound performance. The soundtrack comes from self-built devices that transfer light, as well as electro-magnetic waves into sounds. Main sources of the sound are a 16mm projector and a strobe light.
In every projection, the sound changes during the performance depending not only on the live aspect of the film, but also on the environment where it is played, and what kind of light/sound can be ‘caught’ at every new space the film is performed.
Test 1 is not only an exploration of the basics of filmmaking but also an attempt to create a film that is observed and lived through the moment here and now, an attempt to make film interactive and changing from one screening place to another. Film is not only a process of making but also a process of projecting, and living its own life in different circumstances.
